Introduction / 簡介
Dr. Ting Wang completed her BSc and MSc in Mathematical Statistics at Beijing Normal University. During her Master’s study, she worked for a seismologist on a summer project to statistically distinguish earthquake signals from background noise in groundwater level data. She was fascinated by the fact that she could apply her statistical skills to solve a real-world problem, which led her to further her studies in New Zealand. After completing her PhD in Statistics and working as a postdoc at Massey University, she joined the University of Otago as a Lecturer in Statistics in 2012. She is now an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Otago. Her research field is multidisciplinary, centering on the interface of statistics and geophysics. Her main focus has been on the development of novel statistical models and their application to real-world problems in geosciences.
She has led, managed and participated in national and international collaborative multidisciplinary research projects. She received the Worsley Early Career Research Award from the New Zealand Statistical Association in 2013, a University of Otago Early Career Award for Distinction in Research in 2017, and the Littlejohn Research Award from the New Zealand Statistical Association in 2022.
王婷博士在北京師範大學完成了數理統計學的學士和碩士學位。在就讀碩士期間，她在一位地震學家的暑期計畫中工作，負責使用統計方法來區分地下水位資料中的地震訊號與背景雜訊。她對能夠運用統計來解決現實的問題感到著迷，因此決定前往紐西蘭進一步深造。在完成統計學博士學位，她在梅西大學擔任博士後研究員，並於2012年加入奧塔哥大學，擔任統計學講師，現任奧塔哥大學數學與統計學系副教授。她的研究領域橫跨多個學科，其中著重於統計學在地球物理中的應用，並致力於開發新穎的統計模型，將其應用在地球科學的現實問題。
