Introduction / 簡介
Quantum effects are usually thought to be too delicate to manifest in the macroscopic world. However, recent physics breakthroughs have revealed that, in careful engineered materials – metals, insulators or magnets, quantum effects not only show up but also fundamentally change the way materials behave. In her talk, Chen will cover superconductivity, topological order and a range of amazing phenomena in quantum matters that can hold unprecedented power for quantum computers and even our fundamental understanding of the universe.
過去我們以為量子效應是很微小而纖弱,並不會呈現在肉眼可見的世界。然而最近在物理學的突破發現,在宏觀物質如金屬、絕緣體、磁鐵等中,量子效應不只出現,更是會從根本上改變這些物質的性質。在陳教授的演講中,她會涵蓋超導電性、拓撲次序及量子物質一系列的奇妙現象。對這些現象的研究不僅可以説明我們製造量子電腦,也會刷新我們對宇宙基礎的了解。
